New Member Project
This year's JFWCC New Member class has chosen swim safety and drowning prevention as our passion project for this year. We will be partnering with American Family Fitness to provide swim lessons to children who may not otherwise be able to afford them, and to support the World's Largest Swim Lesson at their Colonial Heights facility on Thursday, June 20, 2019. Your donation will support these efforts.
This testimony from new member Rai Minto explains why we’ve chosen this project:
“One thing that we all have in common is the love for our families and our children. The subject of swim safety and educating families about the many dangers that can arise is very dear to my soul. Last year, my daughter almost drowned. Although this event was very traumatic, I am happy to share my testimony in hopes that it will help save another child’s life and open up a healthy dialogue about the importance of swim safety and understanding the signs of drowning. Thankfully, I was right there and God surrounded my child with angels on earth who literally saved her life. Without me knowing the signs of drowning and my angels acting fast, I am not sure my testimony would be the same. I would like to take this time to say thank you to Kristy, Beth, Jewel, Debra and Brittany for being my angels that day and bringing my child back to life. After this happened I knew it was now my job to make sure parents are aware of the dangers that can come out of a regular day at the pool and how quickly something like this could happen. When deciding on this project we were able to find something truly unique and fun to take part in! This project is special to all of us because we all want to protect our children and make sure they are aware of how easily accidents can happen. This is not only because of the pain that my child suffered but it is for all children who may have health issues, those who cannot swim and again to truly provide awareness on playing safely in the pool!”
Join Us at the World's Largest Swim Lesson!!
We will be participating with American Family Fitness in Colonial Heights in a worldwide event called “ the world’s largest swim lesson”.
The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson, was created by the World Waterpark Association in 2010. It is a global public relations event supported by aquatic facilities, waterparks, pools, swim schools, YMCA's and many others. Swimming is a life-saving skill for children and a vital tool to prevent drowning, which is the second leading cause of unintended, injury-related death for U.S. children ages 1-14. Research shows risk of drowning can be reduced by 88 percent if children participate in formal swimming lessons between the ages of 1-4.
The 2019 World's Largest Swimming Lesson™ will take place on Thursday, June 20th. TEAM WLSL™ will celebrate its 10th anniversary by sending the message Swimming Lesson Save Lives™ to millions of kids and adults.
